Running multiple businesses can get overwhelming at times, but even at its most chaotic times, I wouldn’t trade it for anything – I love being self-employed. One thing I will admit hasn’t been a strength the past year has been finding balance, something I used to be very good at. If you’ve been following me on IG for a while, you’ve probably noticed the shift of lounging by the pool/beach a few times a week to this happening maybe once every 6 months.
Whether you’re juggling multiple commitments between family, friends and work or just looking to seek out some more balance in your life, here are a few things I’ve incorporated into my day to allow for more relaxation:
Get off social media
Coming from someone with an IG following and works in social media, I can tell you firsthand that social media can be draining. The overflowing and endless amount of content on these platforms can not only be a huge waste of time but take away from time where we can really relax. Don’t get me wrong, I love social media but limiting time on these platforms is so important. If you find yourself mindlessly scrolling for hours, give yourself a time limit. Better yet, check your screen time on these platforms and if they’re over an hour, cut down.
Meditate
Before you start your day and after work, give yourself 10 minutes to unwind from it all. Mediation is something I’ve never been excited to do, but it gives me that few minutes to visualize the day, unwind and clear my mind. Game changer.
Acupuncture/ Massage
Getting a massage/acupuncture (sometimes a combination of both) once a week puts me in a better state, both mentally and physically. I used to see this as a *treat* every few months and when my shoulders were super sore, but now it’s more maintenance and for overall well-being.
Turn off notifications for an hour
Turn notifications off for an hour during the day – this means emails, texts, social media…just turn your phone off if you can. This way you can really get into a deep place of relaxation without distraction. During this time, I like to cook, read, take a bath or watch trash TV (this is a rarity but we all have our guilty pleasures).
Take a bath
I’m not sure what the magic of baths are, but they literally melt stress away. Draw up a warm bath with essential oils, a candle, a glass of rosé when you’re feeling in need of a little extra R + R – it always does the trick for me!
