The first thing that got thrown out of the window when I started my company was self-care. I was working 12-14 hour days, even on the weekends. It didn’t help that I loved building my business and self-care just didn’t seem as appealing as working. I totally understand how crazy this may sound, but it’s true.
About 7 months in, my body was tired and I knew I knew I needed to start incorporating self-care here and there into my routine, mostly for my physical health.
I’ve made it a point to take time off whenever I need it and add some more self-care into my day to day. I just took my first weekend off and I’m feeling SO much more refreshed and full of new ideas.
Even if we’re super excited about what we get to do for work, self-care should never be compromised. Self-care fills our mental and emotional batteries and keeps our bodies healthy.
Whether it’s 10 minutes or 2 days, take some time for you, to recharge and reflect.
Here are some ways I have incorporated more self-care into my life:
Massages: There are SO many benefits of massage. Massages reduce stress, improve circulation, reduce pain, eliminate toxins, improve sleep, enhance immunity, reduce fatigue & more.
I used to get massages when I thought I deserved it. For example, I signed 3 new clients, worked out every day of the week, and wrote 3 weeks of content for my blog. Essentially, I was only going in when I was in pain or extremely fatigued.
I now go in for massages 1-2 times a week and they have my improved cognitive function, mental alertness, energy and immunity significantly.
Digital Detox: Between running my personal brand and social media for a ton of brands, I’m almost always using some form of technology. The notifications, content overload and screen time is sometimes overwhelming.
Everyday, I take a two-hour digital detox. During that time, I’ll workout, read, cook or catch up with a friend.
Skincare: One of my favorite ways to de-stress and relax is with skincare. I’ll do an entire routine with face & eye masks, rollers, light therapy, etc. Something about my skin feeling hydrated and refreshed makes me feel super relaxed.
Breath work: I recently signed up for a meditation studio in Malibu called The Mindry, which offers classes including breath work and meditation. With the hundreds of things I need to do on a daily basis, taking an hour to focus on my breath and getting present has improved my overall well being. @themindry
Room sprays & essential oils: I’m a huge fan of aromatherapy for calming the mind and body. Spraying a soothing scent before bed or while doing my skincare routine puts me in a calming state. My favorite room spray is the Saje Fresh Air Spray and the Aura Cacia essential oils.
