My favorite time of day is 5:30 a.m., when no one is awake yet and I have that special, uninterrupted time for myself. In the past I used to have the habit of waking up and rushing straight to work without giving myself any time in the morning. This led to a pattern of internal frustration, where I never felt I had enough time for myself.
Yes, waking up early was difficult in the beginning, but with loving what I do so much it isn’t so hard. Every morning I wake up motivated and excited to start the day, and having that extra time for myself helps me prepare mentally for the day.
Here are five things I do before 7 A.M.:
Drink Water
The first I do before I leave my bed is drink 16 oz. of water. I leave my water bottle on my bedside table and make sure to chug a ton of water before I get up. This helps to clear up any mental fog and hydrate my body – giving me an instant boost of energy.
Make my bed
It’s such a simple concept but makes the biggest difference. Making my bed every morning gives me a sense of accomplishment before I’ve even left my home – a great start to the day. Not only do I feel like I’ve already accomplished something, but I come home to a clean and tidy bedroom, which is always nice to come back to at the end of the day. The task takes less than a minute, try it!
Workout
Getting my workout in first thing in the morning has become my favorite thing these days. I’ll admit, I typically wake up groggy and tired, and that boost of energy helps me get focused and ready for the day. Whether it’s a 30 minute treadmill circuit or full gym session, any sort of movement in the morning helps me have a successful day. Set goals and intentions
I never leave the house without setting my goals and intentions for the day. I’ll review my hourly calendar, to-do lists and make a plan for the day. If you’re interested in how I plan, read my post on how I plan my week, here. Reviewing my day ahead of time allows me to make any necessary adjustments if I have any re-scheduled meetings/calls.
Eat Breakfast
I truly believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Getting a nutritious breakfast in the morning fuels me for a productive day ahead. My breakfast either consists of a bowl of oatmeal topped with fresh fruits and nuts or 2 eggs scrambled aside seasoned potatoes and ½ an avocado.
